Working with Percentage Change
Percentage Increase:
Percentage Increase = Difference between the two numbers compared divided by the Original number and then multiply by 100
% Increase = (New Number- Original Number) / Original Number x 100
Percentage Decrease = Difference between the two numbers (decrease) compared divided by the Original number and then multiply by 100
% Decrease = (Original Number – New Number) / Original Number x 100
Averages: Mean, Median and Mode
Mean
Add all the values and then divide with the number of numbers
Mean = Sum of values / Number of values
Median
Arrange all the number in order and determine the middle number. That number is your median
Median = Middle number when all the numbers are ranked
Mode
Count how many times each value appears in a set of numbers. The most frequent number is your mode.
Mode = The most frequently occurring value.
BODMAS
A very important rule while performing calculations or solving mathematical problems. Always follow this order while solving mathematical problems.
The BODMAS acronym is for:
- Brackets (parts of a calculation inside brackets always come first -left to right)
- Orders (numbers involving powers or square roots)
- Division
- Multiplication
- Addition
